Rule of Thumb

If you can see your thumb through the lid, it will work.

If they're the Sterlite brand with the white tops, they are probably more opaque than translucent. Instead of Saran wrap, you can pick up a plastic painter's drop cloth at the $ store that would cover more area. What size are the containers?

They are about 8" x 12" and 6" deep. Yes, they are opaque. I like the drop cloth idea - very nice. Should stand up when I cut slits in them. I couldn't find cheap containers with translucent tops. Darn.

Another thing you might like to try,I use this all the time.
Go to a fabric store, in the tablecloth department,you can buy clear plastic,(the kind people use to throw over a cloth tablecloth,)by the yard,it is much stronger than a drop cloth,if that matters to you,although the drop cloth is cheaper.I like the one from the fabric store,because you can cut to size,save,and use again next year.
I have also used the gallon baggies from the $ store.

Bob, I had great luck at our local recycling bins today, but that does involve some dumpster diving. found a lot of juice containers and big water jugs that will work well, i think. you could also ask around at schools, churches, local restaurants, anywhere that feeds large numbers of people-- the condiments come in nice plastic containers. i have been asking around my area, but the scouts and other groups have laid claim to them LOL

I placed an ad on my local FREECYCLE website and scored a HUGE bag of 2 liter bottles ! I haven't counted them yet but I think there are over 40 bottles in this bag ;-)
