Use a FoxFire Browser and that should eliminate most if not all of them.

My pop-up blocker says it has blocked 12 pop-ups at this site. But apparently those are getting past.

My 2 pop-up blockers filter out most of them, but some do get through. I would prefer it by far if GardenWeb would charge a fee to belong and elimate the ads, like Dave's Garden does. When the pop-ups get through here, they annoy me enough to chase me back to Dave's for a while. I suspect I'm not the only one, and GW probably loses a fair amount of business by running those obnoxious ads.

I know how much everybody likes free, but on the recommendation of my local isp tech I installed Stop the Pop Up by Sureshot - a $20 one time only fee.

I see no pop ups, here or anywhere. Not ever. My log says it has blocked 8500 pop ups to date (5+ years).....how many one hundreths of a cent per pop is that? I can't do the math :)

I went back into my Norton and stepped up the security. Last time I posted here, I didn't have to look at the baby. I hope that's a good sign.

If it doesn't work I'm gonna look into your Stop the Pop Up, morz8. $20 for a one-time fee is not a lot to pay.

I see that baby too, and one thing that slides from left to right that's tan and mustard... even though I have firefox and pop ups blocked. The baby froze my computer for a few minutes the last time it came up, it was the first time looking at this forum made me very angry and not just plain happy...

i agree with using firefox, with the add on 'adblock plus'. it works great, you don't even see the stand still ads on the top of the page.
you don't have to get rid of internet explorer to use firefox. use firefox for the forums, and IE for everything else. eventually you'll get rid of IE :)

As zubababy above points out Firefox with adblock plus works and you can still keep your IE.

Some people use other's computers may need to get permission. But Firefox and adblock plus doesn't take much space or tech knowledge. If you are allowed, just do it.

Oh, and it is safer. Because fewer people use Firefox there are fewer hackers writing virus an worms for Firefox.

I've used Firefox for a long time now, no pop-ups ever come up which is a pleasure. Also set this forum for my home page since I bounce in and out of here A Lot. IE is used only accidentally if I click on a site that send you there by default.

It's funny because somedays I dont get any and other days I get a few! They have never kept me from what I was doing except to close them.Today I had a Circut City one creep from the top and that thing scared the heck out of me! It was very strange the way it kind of oozed out from the top of my screen! I may try the Firefox browser.

I have the slider also. The baby too! I do not like the pop-ups but I do not like Dave's Garden. I wasted money and time on that site trying to "get in" with the "in" crowd. I came over here and was welcomed with open arms. I love it here and I really like the people over here too. The info over here is better - IMHO. I think if this was a pay site there would be MANY MANY fewer folks posting. IMHO. I also post on the EarthBox forum on the EarthBox website. Those folks welcomed me straight away - no 'in' crowd. And it is free!!

I have never seen pop-ups on GardenWeb. Is it because you aren't registered? I don't have a clue what the difference is but I just know I don't get them.

Ok, I got adblock plus and it's much better! Thanks for the tip. I agree with others that I probably would not pay for membership either. And I love the GW crowd. Yay! I'm happy again!
