Do you have drainage holes in the bottoms? Rather than cover the whole container with a bag, try just covering up some of the holes in the lids.

They actually look OK to me.

Thanks for the quick response. They do have drainage holes in the bottom. I did cover them before but I guess I used the wrong tape and with the rains we have been having that came off. I will try again and remove the plastic.

You can try adding more drain holes, too. Just stick a serated knife through the bottom and twist.

I passed B4 because I wasn't sure but thought maybe too much moisture got trapped in there, see you got good advice.

It looks a lot better on my big-screen imac, fits the browser window perfectly, no horizontal scrolling (your photos). The reason I say that is I first looked on my pc and noticed the pics were too big for my 17-in monitor making me have to scroll horizontally.

Maybe I'll plant a clamshell container today just to see what happens, oh shute, I don't have an holes burned in it. Guess I can do that. It's warmer here today, most welcome although above freezing, don't know how that's going to affect the seeds I've already set out.

Your plastic bags should be OK for now if you are concerned about drainage, you won't want them on in a few weeks when it begins to warm up, and brightens up from gray skies.

If you have adequate drainage holes, your potting mix can't get too wet outdoors especially with the pots sitting on gravel. The mix can only hold so much water and excess runs out the bottom, assuming there are enough holes to allow it to do that. I don't mean to confuse you further, but just so you don't think we have an added disability WS here with all our rain, most of my WS containers don't even have lids, I just use some grit to top the pots so the rain doesn't move the seeds around. (not going for a greenhouse effect since I'm not sowing veggies or annuals, all are perennials, trees, shrubs)

My basement can cause me concern in wet weather, my winter sown pots do not :)

I have a dozen of those grape boxes sitting out already and there is more drainage holes in the bottom than in the top so dont worry about the moisture.
