Island Top

Could you please tell me what type of wood the island top is made of? I am looking at Heart Pine but worried that it may have to much of an orange look. Any input? In my eyes, this kitchen is PERFECT!

I believe it was antique elm, but I cannot be sure. Our favored counter tops are made from reclaimed, true antique white oak planks. Heart Pine can be beautiful, but your concerns are well founded.

Many clients like heart pine, but don't like the reds and orange colors. But those are the primary colors in quality heart pine. Be wary of any freshly sawn pine, as well as a #2 grade, antique or new heart pine. In my opinion, this is essentially building grade lumber, much too soft for counters and flooring. This is my personal opinion from 9 years in business.

So, at minimum, I recommend you only select a hardwood like white oak, hickory, maple, ash, etc.
We produce beautiful counters, using only the highest quality hardwoods reclaimed from buildings of the 1800 and late 1700s. Our price is $95 sf, for thicknesses of 1.50-1.75", and wide planks of 6-7", but can provide in wider planks if requested.

    Hope this helps.
    Good Luck!
