It appears to me that these sconces are in fact too small for the space they are currently in! The scale seems off....

Yes - I can see that now - however, we paid quite a lot for these Holtkoetter alabaster sconces and we love them - I'm hoping lowering it will help with the "scale" issue unless you have any other ideas? Thanks again!

I am sure you did however, lowering them will not fix the scale issue...when the scale is off the lighting issue will remain. They are not the correct size to offer the correct lighting for the space!...And you are very welcome!

Try experimenting with them, i.e., have someone hold one while electrically hooked up, but not installed. Check your perefial vision while reading. If the light is in your sight, you'll not like it. And by the way, if you lowered them, you could move them away from the headboard, centered on night tables. Good luck ;-)

I'm with Functional Conceptz for Interiors , as these scones are way too small for the Scale , I'd suggest something like this will bring out a Air of romance since you do not want to part with your scones .

Sculpin: Thank you - what a great suggestion! I can't wait to try it. I might also try to find a larger (alabaster) shade. I can see that centering and lowering the lamps is a must but camouflaging / creating the illusion of a larger lamp "space" with box molding is brilliant. Frankly, it's my only option at this point - we still have the rest of the house to complete! This has been a very valuable design lesson for me. One I will definitely share. In fact mistakes can sometimes lead to fabulous looks one would never of thought of. Onward we go.... Thanks again to ALL for your helpful advise.
BTW: These lamps may be small but the light they give off is more than adequate to light up the entire room and give the most beautiful ambiance especially when the dimmers are used. Thanks Again !

You're right about those lights and their efficiency - Holtkoetter lighting is of great German quality, and I've sold them several times for task lighting. Do what you love though when it comes to all the rest!

Thank you - I'm going to fix the "scale" issue and focus on the peaceful, happy room with a ocean bay view.

All this said, you bought some awesome sconces!! They are among the only ones on the planet that will provide very generous light (100W Halogen with an incredible light output.)
I'd move them down a bit and add a square of panel or color behind them that's to scale to the bed to tie in the whole picture.
