Acorns!

Anybody need any acorns? We have so many, when the wind blows, you'd better be under something, or yer head will get pelted by thousands of acorns! I pity anybody who has a tin roof, and lives in the Oak woods, at this time of year!

Also, the "stink bugs" are running rampant now. Getting into the house, garage, any place they can hide and procreate! Awful, just awful!

Ohh, yes, Walt!! I have heard that saying, and i'm dreading it!
And, what do plentiful stink bugs portend? Every time i open an outside door, there are scads of them waiting to enter! They got into my garage today, where they met their maker, or whoever designed those horrific pests. We can thank the guvment for sending all of our manufacturing overseas, then allowing them to ship it back in those big containers, and allowing them to be opened without first fumigating them to kill foreign bug invaders! The same goes for ships that ply the great lakes, and empty their ballast water without it being treated. Are we citizens allowed to do that? I think not!
I can remember, when i was a mere tot, of going on a trip in our car, a 1925-6 Studebaker, and when we'd enter another state, we had to leave any fresh veggies, or lettuce, etc. to be checked for bugs, coming from another state! Do they do that any more-?? No, i don't think so. (Yeah, i'm that old! 86!)

Yep rusty, I had to do that on a trip to San Diego back in '69 or '70. I was in the Navy and I bought a new pickup truck back home in Texas. I put a couple of sacks of dirt in the back for the trip back to Coronado. At the Calif border I had to unload it. I bet they still do that there.

The veggie check at the state line is a thing of the past, but anyone int the Navy and Marine Corps knows about the de-snail. Everytime an expeditionary unit returns from a Med/Persian Gulf cruise, we stop in Rota, Spain, pull all the panels off and clean the crap out of all our vehicles and aircraft inside and out with pressure washers. I'm talking floorboards, seats, everything. It's also done in Afghanistan and Iraq before helicopters are packed up and shipped home in C-17s.
Apparently some ferocious snail stowed away on a frigate a century ago and plotted to colonize Virginia, so now we have to do this.
See, not all the US Government agencies are allowing invasive species into the country. We can't even bring jars of sand home anymore.

The stink bug entered the USA in Allentown, PA. It was 5-10 years ago that I started seeing them. They cluster tightly together, usually inside clothing or other dark places.

Once, I had to do an urgent welding repair. I grabbed the overcoat I usually wear and there were thousands inside the sleeves. I shook it out but there were hundreds remaining that were crawling all over me during my hasty repair.

I just moved to VA 18 months ago and those UGLY stink bugs sure were a surprise.

I have been spraying around the screen door edges with insect repellant and it may be helping.

My neighbor has a huge oak tree and it has branches over my tin shed. On top of that there are one or two branches that extend over his truck.

plink plink plink even when it isn't windy. And yes, the squirrels have been going nuts! ANd so are my dogs.

I do like this time of year though!

where did you come from before?

Guess what!! There is one good thing about stink bugs. I wanted to go fishing the other day and could not find any worms so I collected a jar full of stink bugs from around my porch and siding and used them for bait. Worked great for bluegills so they must taste better than they smell!

I used to live in NE Ohio.

Great news about stink bugs as bait!

    HAPPY FISHING!!!
