I can't get started!

Help! I'm in a rut and can't seem to get motivated to get started W/S. Can you believe it?

First, the weather has been crazy. We've had temps into the 60's and then we dropped down into the teens and in the middle of it all...all four of us came down with the crud.

I'm feeling better and the temps aren't too warm right now...but I've got to get started. My jugs are all prepped, the potting soil is sitting next to the jugs and I have my seeds...what am I doing wrong???

I need encouragement....or at least evidence that I'm not alone. Tomorrow...I'll start tomorrow!

    You're not alone - I haven't started yet either.

lol Whew! Actually, I didn't start until almost Feb last year and I had plenty of time. I was just so organized until last month!

I can't wait to see your pics next season, PV!

You are in the zone. It doesn't matter if you sow today or tomorrow. I sow to the first of July, so it's all good. Hope you guys are feeling better and don't ralph in your jugs. ack.

I sowed my first 7 jugs today. Guess I was zoned out too- just couldn't seem to get out of neutral.

I know the feeling, the potting soil is in the trunk of the car and jugs lined up along the kitchen counter.
There's still time, though, will be 10 degrees tommorrow night
Counted 58 days till Offically Spring..ug after that our last frost date is May 15

I was having the same problem. I had six jugs filled with soil sitting in the tub for days maybe even a week. I just started last night. I sowed six, filled six more with soil and prepped six more. This is the earliest I've ever started in my four years of WSing. Now I can't wait to get more done.

Tomorrow just do one jug. Just one.

Then do one the next day.

It's just that first climb over the fence to steal those watermelons!

    Sue....lol!

Thanks to all for the encouragement. I'm doing it tomorrow and I'm going to post in the "What I sowed today" thread! THere...now I have to follow through. :D

    Wow,
I sure don't feel alone now. First year w.sing here. Temps outside have been like Spring this last week, 65-72 in the daytime and about 50-54 in the evening. A month ago we had 6-8 inches of snow everywhere. Supposed to get cooler this week.
Like some of you I have good intentions to get those jugs cleaned, prepped and seeds planted ... somehow I get sidetracked. I have 10 started now it's just getting the other 30+ done!

I haven't started yet either, in fact I'm not behind, I don't usually start til the begining of February anyway, :) haven't even bought any soil yet, so don't feel badly. Start when you can.

I am having the same problem.I have the soil in the kitchen.Since I didn't do any trading,I don't have any seeds all organized, can't find my foil tape for labels-it is freezing out side.I think I'll wait a few more days to get started too.I don't plan on doing many.

Moonphase: Is your yard beyond overplanted too? That's where I am. I yanked a lot of stuff in the fall to make room for some new things this year. I suspect I'll have to yank more, too.

Thank you SO much... I thought I was the only one.

What??? 59 days???!! Holy crap! I have hundreds of seeds! I need to do some heavy duty math...hold please...(about 250 perennials & reseeders divided by 59...4 times nine, carry the 3...) ok, I can do this...that's 4-some a day until spring...28 on a weekend if I just keep procrastinating during the week...yup, I can do this...here I go...just as SOON as I get home from work.

Good thing I gave my seeds a good fondling last night- DH thinks I'm nuts 'sorting' my seeds every other night. "You sort them all, then you put them right back in the bag." (Yeah, and? What's your point, exactly?!)

Oh, and hooray for re-used containers; I have a ton to use from last year that I don't have to prep.

Don't worry, relax. I have only sowed 10 containers and they are with seeds that actually require, to the best of my research, long cold stratification period of 60+ days. Don't plan to sow any more containers until mid-February, those that require approx. 30-60 days cold stratification. Then another big batch of sowing in March - early April - perennials that don't require cold, annuals, and veggies!

Here in zone 5, we have PLENTY of winter left. You are in a warmer zone, so maybe you best get going a bit earlier.

MMQ, LOL at your DH's comment, and your response. :) It is SO true that I often pull out a bag of seeds and fuss over them, maybe check the count on a packet, read something on the label, do a little germination test, or not do much at all, and then put them back.

And I 2nd the "hooray for re-used containers" - this relieves a lot of pressure, knowing that I've got over a hundred containers waiting to go, clean and most of them prepped! I am slowly saving a few more too.

Step by step! Inch by Inch! Turn by Turn!

One jug at a time and before you know it, your family will be cursing you for jugging up the yard!

Okay, I can't believe I only have 5 containers sown! But I see I'm in good company. :) Really planned to get started after Christmas, but had a family reunion last weekend in FL (Don't hate me; it was a LONG drive) and just haven't been able to get my act together. This weekend should be a good time to REALLY start sowing. Have all my seeds, soil mix, tape. . . but now that I think of it, I actually need to gather some more containers. Ah, well, another excuse! LOL Seriously, I placed several "must sow" seed packets on the counter this morning, while looking for trades, so I'm really itching to have a patio full of winter-sown containers. :)That's motivating enough for me, thinking of all those nice little plants coming up. . .Stay tuned!

Got two containers sown, and three more prepped. Dunno what's going in them, though ...

I was having a hard time getting started too. This is my second year. Last year I would sit and do 25-30 at a time. (Had over 500). This year there was no excitement in it for me. I was looking for other things to do instead of winter sow. Even cleaning house for Christ's sake! So one day I just made myself get started. I am doing it in smaller amounts (8-12) at a time. Have found a system that makes it seem easier. I have to admit the excitement is still not there but it's getting done.
