Sprouts vrs Arctic front

I have several happy little sprouts up enjoying the warm weather. Now it is supposed to hit low 20s, maybe teens in two days. Do they need protection? Can I throw old blankets or something over the whole winter sowing container area? Do I have to move them to a non-freeze area? I have the zinnias and petunias under lights in the garage, but things I thought were tougher are outside. Some things I've never planted before, so I don't know how hardy they are---indigo, flax, cupid's dart, forget-me-not, baby's breath, bells of Ireland, Dame's rocket, some other stuff. Should I play it safe and cover everything?

I'm bringing in all my sprouted containers tomorrow. Gonna take an hour or more. Same deal here. Next year, I'll wait til the end of February. It's just so hard to wait.

OK, so sprouts will come in, but can I leave the unsprouted flats out there?

They're telling me now to leave them alone. Only the strong survive. I haven't decided yet. Our forecasted temperatures are starting to rise. Double check yours. I know my hollyhocks and other perennials will be fine down to 22degrees.

Yes, chickenmom. You should definitely leave unsprouted flats outside. It goes directly to one of the key principles in Winter Sowing: mimick mother nature. She doesn't move her unsprouted flats into the garage. If you do, you risk making them warm enough to be tricked into sprouting. Why compound your problem?
