Question on Simplicity shuttle drive??????

Hi I have an old Simplicity 7000 series but I don't know if it's a Baron, Broadmore, or what ever. It has a 10 or 12 horse cast iron Brigs and shaft drive to a bevel gear and from there are belts to one heck of a larg tranny and such.

I have no deck to mow but I didn't buy it mow but to haul a 10' by 5' trailer up a hill full of anything I need to get up there. It performed very well, not fast but it's built like they should be. my question is I'm planning a complete resoration this winter on the trackter and I'm not sure what is the shuttle drive/ I have pictures in a parts manual,( one of many I bought till I got the one that best depicts my trackter ). Ihave any ID # to relate to. It doe's not have the Hydro trans. It has the 4 speed manual and looks to be a shuttle drive parts on the tractor, but how doe's it work and what doe's it do? I have what is a planitary gear set up on the left rear close to the top of the tranny and another planitary on the same side but on the axcel. I have a very larg 1998 craftsman comannd with a hydro ( no deck) it is also a Garden Trackter to use this winter or untill the Simplicity is restored. I know I'm drafty but this is a new forum to me and any help will be greatly appreciated.

The big pulleys on the tranny is the shuttle drive. In the center of those big pulleys is the planetary gears that turn the input shaft of the rearend. The shuttle has 2 belts. The long one goes to the bevel gear box & a idler pulley that is operated by the clutch/brake pedal. The other is a short belt that goes to a idler pulley operated by the shuttle directional lever. With the bevel gearbox in a gear(1,2,3,4)& your foot off the pedal, as you push the shuttle handle forward the belts tighten up on the big shuttle pulleys which makes the tractor move forward. When pulled back, the short belt loosens which enable the planetary gears to reverse direction which makes the tractor move backward. When ajusted correctly it is a smooth operation & very dependable. The bad part is they are kinda slow.

Thanks atom-ant
I was never to sure what the shuttle drive did, yes thats my trans alright, I do need to find the little ( I think it's plastic) cap that covers that planitary gear set up.
It is noisy and flips greas everywhere, I have been using white lithium greas in the planitary set up, but a cover would really be nice. If anyone that reads this and knows where I could locate one, please let me know. Yes this tractor is slow but I have hauled two tons of 5/8" minus in a home made built trailer up a steep driveway all summer long three years ago and you name it I have hauled it, yiu can't stop it, it was used hard before I bought it, now it's time to restore the old tractor. One thing nice about these old Simpicity's and cubs, Case, and like built GT tractors is there is alot left to rebuild when it comes time compared to the newer GT tractors.
