I'm sure you can. Somebody had that on their list of what they've sown so far in another recent thread I can't remember.

I failed with the gaillardia I sowed, but can't remember if it was WS 2 seasons ago or spring sowed. Will try again. I have huge packs of seeds from American Meadows, don't know why on earth I've got those.

I want the Oranges and Lemons but was going to buy the plants and save seeds from those.

I bought an Oranges and Lemons this year, and I LOVED it! I saved a few seeds and ws'd them. I don't know for sure that it will come true for seed...from what I've read, the jury seems to be out on this. I hope it does!

Yes, with a new introduction, that is a consideration. I'd just cull out any that revert and not using seeds from them. But they're perennials and will have a longer wait to find out if they don't bloom the first year.

I'm heavily sowing on my Cherry Brandy doubles and triples and who knows what I'll get with those? They're new, too.

There's an intervening post, but my message won't take so I altered the subject.

Yes, you can WS gaillardia. If you check the WinterSown.org website, there are lists of annual, perennial, and vegetable seeds that can be successfully wintersown. Also valuable is the germination database. Just look for your zone's germination records and you can see what other people in your zone have tried to start and whether or not they were successful.

Here is a link that might be useful: Wintersown.org Seed Lists

I had iffy germination on my gaillardia last year but all of them bloomed first season for me. I am doing at least five more varieties this year to try for the two that didn't make it. :)

I have successfully wintersown Gaillardia up north. It is not a very hardy perennial, and lasted only two seasons, but in your zone, it should be truly perennial. Lovely bloomer.

My seeds harvested from Goblin and from Burgundy did not come true to the donor plants. Different sizes, shapes, and colors. If you want a certain kind or size it might be better to start with fresh seeds.
