rose swag - pruning instructions?

Last spring we decided to set up a swag to try to control 'the killer rose' (DH's name for New Dawn...!) Last spring we set up posts with a double row of chains leading down the south alley path away from the arbour where New Dawn lives.

So far, last year and again this year, we've just been tying canes onto the chains. There's no question that growing the canes horizontally promotes flowering laterals!

This picture shows some of the laterals with buds on the south side of the swag against the wall of the house June 7:

It's just starting to bloom now:

I haven't been able to find any decent information on what to do next to get he flowers to develop closer to the chains instead of growing tall. I assume I need to cut the laterals back after they flower - how far back? Any other details I need to know? And pictures of your swag(s) to share with me for inspiration...?
