Tractor trade-in.

A friend gave me one of those lawn/leaf sweepers that ya tow with a lawn tractor-said it was a gift.

So, not needing it, i set it out front with a sale sign on it. And along comes a guy-asked how much, so i gave him a price. He asked if he could trade vhis old lawn mower for it, even up. I told him to bring it here so i could see it.

So an hour later, he backs in with a flat-bed trailer, with a #127 Cub Cadet on it, starts it up, backs it off, hooks up the lawn sweeper, tries it out with the Cub, loads up the sweeper, said good trade, left the tractor, and went home!------------------------------------------------------???????

Now, the tractor runs and drives, and operates ok. The engine is ok. Has wheel weights and tire chains, a 3 blade mowing deck Hydrostatic tranny. Needs a bath and some TLC! And, i needed another tractor like i needed a hole in my head! I already have a Poulan, an MTD, an old Speedex, A Simplicity, 2 RER Snappers, and they all operate!

And so, while my mind is trying to adjust to all of that, another guy drives in with yet another lawn sweeper and sez its a gift for past help! BBBLLLBBBLLLLBBLL!

You may want to sell one or two of your least favorite tractors to make room for your next tractor! Rusty, I don't know anyone on this forum that finds better deals than you. It's hard to beat "free"!

Yes, it seems the old tractors and mowers are always seeking a place to retire, so what better place than here! Parts is parts! I do manage to sell a few over a summer, but there are always more out there.
Of course, my wife's Buick, a '95, just had the exhaust system replaced. So, the fuel tank got jealous of the interest the muffler got, so it sprang a leak, to the tune of $400+! And, my truck got some TLC in its catalytic converter, too, so the money comes and goes! We'd like to get a newer car, but with subsisting on my Gov. Disability check,SS, and whatever i can scrape together, we're lucky to even have 2 vehicles running! Nobody wants to hire an 83 Y.O. wretch, so the mowers are my best bet!

Maybe, you like to go over to the local golf course and take a position in the OPE maintenance division. ? Some of those jobs are pretty cushy! Plus, $$$

Rusty.......You should be very EMPLOYABLE. Look at your hand.......you have the age card & the ADA card to say the least. Heck, you could even write a humorous column for syndication in the newspapers. (I remember the suggestion about inscribing the logo of "a major airline" on an errant nut and tossing in the neighbor's driveway) Now that's funny, I don't care who you are.

Believe me, that thought has occurred to me. I went to the local Ford dealer for parts, and somebody there, didn't know his name, a salesman, thought i'd make a good "lot boy"! It'd be something to do to keep busy in the winter.
funny part of that is this: Back in 1947-8, i went to that dealership, and got a job as mechanics helper, then into the body shop for 3 years. What goes around-comes around!
Yesterday, i stopped at a local shop, where the body man was doing some priming. I stood there, waiting for him to finish. He did, and asked if he could be of assistance. I said no, i'm just remembering my 50 years of auto body work and painting! By the smell of the primer. I got a strange look from that statement.
today, i went to the local steam tractor show/ flea market. Had the old Speedex on the truck, and sold it in the first hour! Asked exactly the amount the owner wouldn't pay me for the work i had done on it! And got it, and some cash to deliver it 30 miles down the road. Sold a few old toys, and some other things. But, it got too hot to sit out in the sun, and there weren't no shade, except under the tables. I'da looked kinda goofy setting down there. And, that was my day.

Nice work Rusty.........all 83 years worth. I can relate to the body shop work myself. Back in the early 70s I took a job at the International Harvester (truck division) factory branch in Nashville, Tn. Management moved me to work in the body shop for 3 years. A couple of years ago I went to see a friend and when I got to his house, he was working on an old car he'd bought. He was priming a section that he had been straightening and leveling. As I stood there watching him finish up and clean out the spray gun, I too took a long walk back through time. The names of a few people I hadn't thought of for 35 years came to light.
