Tractor Repair

I have an '03 John Deere GT235 garden tractor and the steering rod came off, but I was able to put it back on once or twice more when it fell off. How do I repair this? Do I just buy a new steering rod, or can I repair the old one? And is it difficult? It looks pretty simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will have to go to the JD Dealer, and buy the new part. Then, if you have tools, and any mechanical ability, you can remove the old part, and install the new one, thus saving a wad of cash! Take the broken part to the dealer's store.
I have used heavy "wire ties" for an emergency fix, until i could get the machine out of the back forty and into my garage.

Some JD L&Gs have adjustable;e steering rods and some don't. Some didn't come with adjustable steering rods and the replacement rods are adjustable.

If the steering rods are adjustable then you'll need to set the toe.

If it is the cross rod that runs between the 2 wheel spindles- you buy the whole rod. If it is the rod that comes from the steering gear forward, you buy the ball joint ends seperately. If the latter, bring your complete serial # to the dealer or the old part. Really if it is just the ball joint, you may not have to rely on the Deere dealership and be able to source it elsewhere.
