Have I failed?

This is my first year winter sowing.

Toward the beginning of last month I put out Poppies,Delphinium, Lupine,

Forget-Me-Nots and Passion flower vine.

Right now I only have two or three delphinium seedlings. shouldn't I have a lot more growing by now, or is there still a chance more could come up?

I'm thinking I should have used better dirt!

OMG You have SPROUTS already!?! In zone 5!

No, you did nothing wrong! I usually don't get any sprouts in zone 5 until after April 1st! You aren't late, you're early! Good for you!

Thank you, this makes me very hopeful!
I am really hoping some of these poppies come up!

I did some poppies the direct sow method and yesterday I Wintersowed some. I hope mine come up as well since I am in zone 5 also.
good to know you are having success!

Heck no, my delphs are up yet.
Looked at the records, and the Delph, lupines didn't show green till the 2nd week April last year.
Poppies I direct sow and will do this weekend.

Is there anything special you do when you direct sow the poppies or do you just sprinkle them on the ground?

I have some seeds left I may try the direct sow method as well.

    It's too early!

Getting Nervous Audrey - do the kids still say "Take a chill pill"? LOL! Stop worrying, it's too early. I saw two little sprouts in my poppy container this morning, but there will be very many more to sprout in there. I may see a very few things sprout in the last days of Feb-early March (like poppies, alyssum and bachelor buttons), if I sow them early enough, but the majority of the sprouts don't start showing up until the back end of March, April.

    Don't worry ---be happy.
For you newbies out there-----This question always comes up. If you have at least 3 inches of soil. good potting soil, holes in the top and bottom of your container. You pretty much can't go wrong. If I don't get sprouts I usually write it off as the seeds weren't viable in the first place. It wasn't something I should have or have not done. And unfortunately it does happen occasionally, but not that often.

OK, you made me go out and look- not a sprout in sight. We have had a few warm days though now it's now 29 degrees with a wind chill of 15.

Not fair that you folks hundreds of miles north of me have sprouts already. But I only have about a dozen jugs out so far this year.

I'm in NE ohio and I've got nothing so far. It was nice out today, very very cold but clear not a lot of wind so I put more things out. Oh for a warm sunny week.

poppies like a bit of frost, so out they go!

I just mixed all the poppy seeds I had gotten and threw them in my flower beds. I did not treat them special or anything. I researched them and it seems they are easy to grow this way. I am a bit skeptical so I wintersowed a container of seeds yesterday too. I figure one of them will work.
