I feel your pain, Gardenluv. We really do get attached to our little sprouts. I don't have any yet to worry about, planted late. But I can't wait to see one.

Hopefully if you had just one sprout that means there are more seeds left in the container that can try again later. Lots of ppl tell stories of having things finally sprout after they dump the cup out. I certainly have a lot of that with hollyhocks and zinnias.

I lost some hardy hibiscus that sprouted in late January. Others in the hoophouse have survived. At least this year I kept a few seeds of each variety just in case that happened. It's not a fool proof method, all the time. Mother nature kills her own seedlings every year too.

Cats probably killed half my tomatoes. Little devils were flying around the fences today and used my jug patch as a landing pad. Knocked over five, four were fine, but a jug of heirloom tomato seeds spilled. Now I have no idea which is where or whether they'll even sprout. grrrr...!

Do you need or want any more Mexican hat seeds? I have some I'll sent you.

Thank you pippi21 but I still have some left. The rest of the container had not sprouted yet, so hopefully the rest of the sown seeds will be fine. If not, I can try again next year.

Silver cat, that really stinks. The first year I wintersowed, the wind blew over a few of my jugs. I just set them up right again and lo and behold I still got some sprouts. Probably not as much as I would have but that was okay.

I am kind of amazed that I didn't lose any more! I thought for sure my babies would have drown or gotten pummeled to death. The lettuce sprouts were pretty muddy but hopefully will dry out in the next couple of days.

i still can't believe you got sprouts a while ago. I'm in zone 5, too, but I'm on the 5/4 border and I couldn't imagine anything sprouting now! This is my first year, however, so I keep checking to see if I'm going to be surprised!

gardenluv, same thing happened to me last year with the wind and I only had two jugs planted. I got about four plants in each one but probably would have had more had they not blown over.
