Double wide top beam, allows electrical run to a standard porcelain bulb holder. Columns built around the fixture. Then, steel plates were water jet cut with the pattern
and affixed to the sides of the columns to cover the compact fluorescent bulb that was
screwed into the fixture. The bulbs can be reached between the columns for replacement when needed.

unfortunately those are in the back beyond 10 year archive. But they are very simple to build. Standard 4x4 cedar columns. Plan for the electrical and provide an exterior bulb holder. The waterjet cut steel is 1/8" thick, plan your own pattern to be whatever you want. You could even use copper since it is easier to punch a pattern. bulb is reachable between the columns to remove and replace. we put in a compact flourescent warm light, 2700 kelvin color temperature, but now we would use an exterior grade LED.
