I use 5" pan pots I buy at the Violet Showcase. I put a layer of coarse perlite on the bottom and I wick them.

I think your dog dish should work just right. I drill holes, I do not like to use the soldering iron because burning plastic stinks and the vapors are really bad for you.

You can also use saucers for large pots. I have 10 inch and 12 inch saucers. I put drainage material, small rocks, styrofoam peanuts, etc as drainage. You can also pierce holes if you have the equipment.

A good layer of soil less mix, then put the trailer in. Not all trailers will trail over the soil, but many will.

I also buy the 5" pan pots from the Violet Showcase. They are only $0.69 a piece or 12 for $5.29. Much cheaper than the $3.00 you are paying for the dog dish. You can click on the above link and look at their website under growing supplies.

I am interested in a non-flexible pot so that I might eventually hang it if it is trailing nicely.
