root stock question

I have an ownroot HT that I would like to graft to a root stock to see if it would improve its vigor in my Z4 area. Dr Huey & Multiflora are the 2 common root stocks that I see in my area but I was wondering if anyone has tried something that is not normally used as a root stock for their grafting? What I'm looking at is the hardy & vigorous Canadian rose 'Hope For Humanity'. Has anyone tried using a hardy shrub rose like this for a root stock?

In Europe, varieties of Rosa canina, the Dog Rose, are used because it is hardier. I have not heard of others.

I once used a New Dawn as rootstock. I chip budded a tiny gallica/pompom type unknown rose which is now growing at my allotment. I am all for having a go so why not.

The article explains something I saw at White Flower Farm--a zone 5 hardy tree rose of the Fairy. When grafted to the Pfander variety of Canina it can survive -24 degree Celsius winters without protection.
