Ok-I found out that it's a "blue jack dempsey"(baby). Its quite an interesting fish!

It gets more tourquoise/blue as it grows older. It is much less aggressive than normal dempseys. You can't breed them with eachother, so you have to breed one that has 100% of the recessive blue trait with a normal one that has 25-50% (recessive traits only show if at 100%).

They cost big bucks and are rare in the US. They were originally bred out of Argentina and are more available there.

I saw a small one over the weekend. $39.00. Ouch!

I remember the regular Jack Dempseys from years back and I don't know how long the new breed has been around , but recently saw them on the web, and they are striking?? I'd sure like to have those, though most likely it would be very hard to find them locally. I guess fish have to be diliverd very quickly by air freight, and I doubt that any of the regular shippers would guarantee live delivery of fish??? Probably a dumb question on my part!!

i got him from a florida breeder
the thing about blue dempseys that are cool is that they are less aggressive and grow smaller (slightly) than the regular jack dempsey

Yeah my LFS got some babies in a few weeks ago...what a challenge it was not to buy any. Alas, no room for another tank. These guys get big. Normal dempseys get up to a foot long and a few pounds - the blues grow slightly smaller.
