You have real pygmy corys? I'm jealous, I tried to get my lfs to order some but by the time the shipment would have come in I wouldn't be in town anymore. Did you have to request a special order or are you lucky enough to have a place nearby that stocks those lovelys? I'm a sucker for catfish, I have some Aenus corys right now, as well as otos, and a great big plec just over a foot long.

Other than those, I can't resist Oscars or really any other large "pet" fish. That's the reason I'm getting a 210 next year, can't have a big fish without a big tank! My mother loves my 55 Central American cichlid tank because all of the fish are so interactive. She gets very attached to them, and always let's me know if she thinks the fish are being too mean to each other. Ever try explaining to your mommy that fish don't know they shouldn't defend their territory? (Better than the time I had to explain why I was thawing bloodworms in the microwave!)

favorite pond fish is japanese koi favorite aquarium fish is hmmmm.... perhaps the neon tetra. But i like Guppies too!

well, hte shop said they were pygmaeus. they looked like it, and i trusted the owners. (mom and pop store). unfortunately, i think i did something wrong since they died fairly shortly. they didn't get them often, but htey tried to get unusual selections once in awhile. there they were, and i loved them at first sight. they look so sweet!
i am the jealous one! a 210! i also love ottos, but i was trying to keep it short.

one i forgot. i love the red-tailed cats, but they get so huge! i was tempted to get one and build an outdoor pond just for it. then, someone's dog would probably fall in and get eaten. my monster of the deep it would have been named.
theresa, i like discus too, but i am a little intimidated by the difficulty. but, those and farlowellas are what my plans are if i get back into aquariums.

are you supposed to thaw bloodworms? i used to just give it ice cube and all. hmmm, maybe that is part of my problem. it did help keep it floating instead of it all falling to the bottom.

In freswater.-Discus, cory cats and plecos have a very special place in my heart. Dwarf corys are cool teeny tiny sized kitties, always playful and I love that habit, "I move then we all move", it´s funny to see all of them moving when one moves away from the school. Plecos, oh yeah, those zebra, mango and golden nugget sure are beautiful fish.
In salwater.- Emperor agelfish, flame angelfish, racoon butterfly, saddleback butterfly, square pink anthias, dispar anthias, bicolor blenny, latezanotus clown fish, naso tang, achilles tang are some of my favorites but personally I prefer invertebrates, they are much more challenging.

you know, i have often dreamed of keeping the escape artist octopus. such characters! that is why they appeal to me. i won't though. i also like the trigger fish. i can watch a clownfish go in and out of its anemone all day!
but, i didn't mention it because i never had a saltwater tank.

Plecos are fasinating bottom fish. I had one that got to be a foot long in my pond. He kind of reminded me of the Sting Ray. One of my favorite salt water fish is the Mantis sting ray. Such graceful, unique and awesome huge fish. When my husband and I were snorkeling in the Caribbeans (before kids) we watched the Sting Rays swim beneath us. I was so memorized by them. Sometimes I would get so excited by the under water view, I would start talking and forget that I had my snorkel gear on.

My favorite fish are Clown Loaches. I have one that I've had for a solid 8 years, & I estimate he was probably at least a year or 2 old when I bought him. Have another that was probably a yearling when I bought it 2 years ago.

I find them friendly, personable fish. Can't imagine a tank without them - unless of course it was a tank that had fish that would bother them. Luckily, don't think I'd ever be keeping any fish that wouldn't get along with them.

Altolamprologus calvus is my favorite - they don't rally have a common name

Ocean (my boyfriend) says his favorite are the violet gobies.

Me I have several....I like my silent hunters the marbled gobies. I like the bichirs when they go nuts on an earth worm though ;) I like the violets when they come out (they've gotten bigger everytime I've seen them)...

I'm a big loach fan I have 12 all together (two clowns, two horsefaced, three dojo, and five kuhli). Clowns aside it turns into a treasure hunt to see them ;) I've thought about making a tank of all hiding bottom dwellers so I could say look at my fish lol...

All my livebearers I have to make goby/bichir chow...Mollies are pretty freindly and willing to taste anything this includes my arm :)

i like redtail loaches, gouramis, and longfined rosey barbs.. i also love the clown loach but i haven't got one yet. I think the bala sharks are pretty cool too. Mostly i like any freshwater fish that is colorful and the rosey barbs are so playful and active, lots of fun to watch. I found if you have a group of 5, they don't bother the gouramis.

Man, that's like asking my favorite color, or my favorite food, or...

I'm really not able to come up with a favorite, but some of them include:

Hi. Just wanted to weigh in. I never dreamed I would want to keep fish(I thought I was content with my cat and parakeet)til I was in a chain store a few days ago and saw the Betta. I actually felt sorry for the poor thing there all alone in that tiny cup. Before I knew it,he was in my dinning room enchanting me,LOL.

my X started me liking fish when he wouldn't take care of their water change and i could't take it. then, came the angel pair,and i was hooked. amazing how many marble patterns come up, like zebras with no two alike! i use to fall asleep lying on the floor watching the little tiny babies.

i forgot to mention bumble bee gobies. they are just adorable! and i am always partial to a catfish, especially when they make sounds.

Hope I don't sound like the dumbest man in America,but I didn't know the catfish made sounds. What does it sound like?

I don't know about catfish, but Clown Loaches make a very audible "clicking" sound to each other when kept in a group, which they really should, being very social.

the sound was just too adorable! i can't remember what others or if all sydontis cats do this, but mine was an "angelicus." sorry, i ca'nt remember the scientific name. they have the slimmer body and LONG barbels. i was taking "gabriel" to a fish auction. i don't remember why i was trading him/her, since gabriel was one of my favorites. i was probably needed more nursery space for angels. anyway, i caught gabriel in a net (stupid) not realizing they had the thorny barbs under the gills. i believe the sound was a survival trait to scare off predators. i had had gabriel for 2-3 years and nothing. then the net, i could hear gabriel while still in the water. it was kind of a chirping or gurgling sound if i remeber right (it has been a long time). made me want to keep gabriel, but i had set my course. then, i needed to cut my fish net b/c the spines stayed out. i knew that cory cats had these spines, and bristlenose, but i would have never known. btw, gabriel also caused a tiger barb to go reeling through the water after contacting one of those barbs. it only happened that one time, and never with any of the other fish. interesting.

I am into the cichlids right now. I have severum and parrots. They are very friendly

There is a family of catfish that rotate their dorsal fin rapidly in the socket if they are stressed or caught and it makes a very audible grinding or croaking noise. They have a common name of "talking cats" . Clown loaches click and several marine fish and shrimp can make noise too. There is a marine shrimp called a pistol shrimp that can make a popping noise with its special claw that sounds like a pistol shot or glass breaking!

I dont really have a favorite fish but right now I am enjoying my Flame hawk and my Valentini puffer in my marine tank and my chocolate cichlid, my gold sevrum and assorted rainbow fish are neat too in the freshwater tank.

Go ahead and roll your eyes but my favorite fish are telescope-eyed goldfish.

My second favorite fish are freshwater anglefish and most loaches. :-)

Whew, with all the "fancy fish" that were mentioned I almost didn't post at all.....then I read on and saw some goldie fans!! Some may think they are just so-so, but I love GOLDIES!!

Hey - I love "Goldies" too!! Even though I posted the "Clown Loach" as my favorite tropical fish, secondary to that would be the goldfish, & if I ever find room for a 2nd tank somewhere, it will probably be populated with a couple of them. My favorites are the "Black Moors" & the "Fantails". I used to have a Black Moor & 3 Fantails (Gold, Blue, & Red Cap) in a tank & found them both fascinating & restful to watch.

I just bought 3 parrot fish 2 bright orange 1 blue Im getting some more.I have a 55 gallon

How about if I just change my answer to predatory tank busters and sand sifting gobies? lol. I'm really enjoying watching my clown knives even though the poor babies don't have proper housing yet.

adrea, have you ever tried the shell breeding gobies? i had wanted to once, but they just kept going too high at the fish auction.

Oh I have to watch some one slipping carp into my community tank lol. The 6" goldfish that's in there now is prefable to the two 12" koi that were there though ;)

My favorite fish would have to be Clown Loaches. I like how they swim together and sleep laying on the gravel like they are dead! Had a few scary episodes thinking they was dead. And i really like the Rainbow Shark too.
