I sometimes get those air roots too when I have leaves or even small plants in bags for humidity. It's just a humidity thing, just ignore them, there are roots forming in the soil too. Once you un-bag the leaves, the air roots will die off on their own.

Does this mean that I can now take those leaves out of the bags and let them start breathing real air, or should I do it gradually, a little longer each day or something like that?

I'd take them out now, but gradually. Open the bag a little more each day, then take it off for good after about a week.

By the way, my babies are starting to come up out of the soil! It's so exciting. :0)

I only did this to see if I could but fom now on I'd just as soon buy blooming plants -- quicker that way :-)

I'm a mad scientist. I propagate all my plants constantly, and I'm always trying something new. Today I put down 3 blossom stems. Not because I particularly needed more of those AVs - I already have leaves down, of course - but just to see it work with my own eyes, I suppose.

Forget being a crazy cat lady. I'm way more of a crazy plant lady. :0P
