need help with dining/living room

help my living/dining/kitchen are all open I currently have carpet in hall, dining and living room and vinyl in the kitchen. I would like to have hardwood in the kitchen and dining area but keep carpet in the living room, how can I split the two types without it looking odd?

    Carpeting has gotten rather expensive so by the time you install new carpeting and replace it once you'll be angry at yourself for not putting the hardwood flooring throughout the whole open area.
