Facebook?

I did not know there was a thread here on GW! I just posted in Tx thread how awesome Wintersown is! Anyway, could you start a Facebook group? We could share our pics? I have tons of pics of my tomatoes on Facebook.

Thanks so much!

WS was born right here. It was just an idea til Trudi petitioned the former owner of Gardenweb to start this particuler forum.

I witnessed the birth. A joyous day.

    ...from humble beginnings....something, something ,something.

    LOL

Can't you just post your pics here? We all love sharing our photos here and enjoy looking at others. There is even a gallery on this forum for exactly that! There are a couple of posts on exactly how to post pics if you are not sure how to. I would love to see your tomatoes!

We do have a FaceBook group, it's got 400+ members too. It's a very nice and diverse group of people.

Here is a link that might be useful: Facebook Winter Sowers

Now you have one more member :) Thanks for asking this question, and posting the fb link!

YEA! I just joined and added some pics. Reason I don't post on GW is I have so many pics and to load into the whole Photobucket is a hassle.
So great! This is awesome! Now I have a thread to read thru at night! But today...it is sunny and I am transplanting tomato seedlings! And it is great to know the "nice lady" as I call her is Trudi!

    LOL.

I started the facbook page about a year or so ago, in the beginning it was slow going but now we've got a lot of friends there.

I for one don't do Facebook...just not enough hours in the day, I guess. I hope folks don't abandon us here at WSing.

Sue, there will always be a GW WS forum.

The thing is that there are now so many winter sowers that multiple messaging is required to keep in touch with them all. A lot of FB people won't come to a forum, they do FB and other social network sites. And WinterSown is on Twitter too.

    I don't know about you, but I'm on a 26 hour day. It's called Trudi-Time!

Sue, "I for one don't do Facebook...just not enough hours in the day, I guess. I hope folks don't abandon us here at WSing."

It's bad enough the way I can ramble on here, and I hate to get sucked into it.

If I have too many photos to post, I make my own web pages/galleries (can't do the really sophisticated things) and post links, have my own web space and do what I want with a minimum of rules and blips.

Several members of my family use Facebook, and I politely decline, plus I have nothing in particular to hide but don't want to use my real name. I've worried about the younger family members telling too much about their personal lives (and mine) on FB. My granddaughter put up a photo of me about 20 years ago, and I didn't even know it existed! Since it was she, I didn't mind so much but was a shock to see my hair was still totally red then, now it is almost pure white lol. I could approximate the date because she was just a toddler then, will be 26 in June.

To each his own. If people are happy with it, why rain on their parade?

FaceBook is like tofu, it becomes what you make it to be.

Some people have done some really complicated pages there, they must provide some good tools. Maybe I'll take a look at winter sowing.

Are you truly the one that invented winter sowing? I'd never heard or imagined it in my life. Incredible, if so. Who would have thought?

Now fall direct sowing which overlaps some with winter sowing has been done for longer than I remember.

I'm so grateful for all the good ideas and support here. If winter sowing works out well for me, it opens up a whole new world of gardening. I'll report in when and if things start happening significantly.

I guess another reason I'm leery of FB is that I read a news article on ABC about how it is being monitored and information posted there (and similar sites like twitter) is being collected for a massive database. Then I read another place that members' information supplied is used extensively for advertising and don't know what else and if it is true.

I did sign up for an account there, but haven't done any more with it. I got a friend invite, accepted, and wrote a blurb essentially like the above, and my post was deleted. Hmmmmm. I wonder why and who did it. I was still on the friend list last time I looked, am not losing any sleep over it.

I'm on facebook under my real name, shocking that. If anyone wants to look me up it's Kat DeWees. I have the hardest time keeping track of the wintersowers without their garden web screen names.
I admit I play the games alot.
If you don't want your info used for advertising you can change your options so they can't use the pictures and things like that. I don't think it cuts into my gardenweb time that much. Just off season till I get those tender annuals going. :)

When I first got on the internet back in 1997, I didn't post too much, and what I did were under my real name because I tend to be an open kind of person, and hiding behind a screen name, I don't know. Then a couple things happened, and I started using nyms. My genealogy lists, I still have to use my real name; it doesn't bother me but that's how a lot of spammers get my contact info, through those. But there are only two card sites I'll look at my card. Some of them I think are fronts for collecting valid email addresses, and there are other ways.

I can't believe in the variations on a theme I get from those money scammers.

I joined FB and immediately started getting spam mail - Viagra!
so I left FB but I can't do anything about the spam, which continues, except change my e-mail account which seems like a lot of trouble plus I'd be afraid I'd fail to notify someone and they wouldn't be able to find me.

I must of been in a fugue state when I used my main e-mail account to sign up for FB, I have an other account which I use to order things, and to inquire of places, so that one I don't care if I get spam.

But I don't get spam in any of my 4 e-mail accounts except the one I used to sign up for FB.

It's very strange - I'm sure the millions of people who use FB do not get spam because of it, if they did they would have made a racket about it.

But in my case I'm sure that's where it came from, so I'm leaving it alone.
Unless I get curious then I'll sign up again using my
    "expendable" e-mail account.

I don't get Viagra emails, you probably need to set up a spam blocker on your email account. You can get this junk from anywhere, even here.

I never say whether I'm a girl or boy, that cuts some of the gender specific spam down. Lol. I do mention that I'm married and to a Timothy though. They also base a lot of your advertisements on your interests so I get a lot of mom ads. My spam filters in my email do a pretty good job as long as I keep marking anything that gets through though.

I love Facebook. My kids call me the Facebook Queen!!! I never had much trouble from spam from it. I just love being able to connect with people and Facebook makes that so easy.
