Wisteria

Hello there. In the backyard at my family home I planted some chinese wisteria, which very eagerly grew all the way up to the roof. It was using ivy as a natural trellis.

I have since moved out and I was not home to protect my garden, and my parents cut it back to NOTHING and got rid of all the ivy because it was "damaging" the bricks. The bricks still looked like they were just installed - I was very mad, devastated actually. I've never nearly cried for a plant before.

In hindsight I shouldn't have done this, but I transplanted it and cut back the roots to take to my apartment to bonsai (is this possible?) or grow outside and all of the foliage has since died. There is still green visible at the ends where it was cut or if it's scratched, so I was wondering if it's possible to save the now-little guy. I'm fairly sure I have damaged the roots too severely, but I am hoping against hope this isn't the case. Thanks for any help you can provide.
