I have a Fluval 404 and mine clogs quickly as well. I bought a Cascade 1000 which is made by Penn Plax. Internally it is just like a Fluval but it has not clogged up after running for three months. The Cascade 1000 comes with a spray bar and suction cups that hold the bar right at the surface. It also has a primer on the top so it is very easy to fill after cleaning.

Cool, Ill look into it ; ) funny you should mention the spray bar! I made one out of PVC for my 404! = ) Ill post pics of it soon = )

Looks pretty good!! Whhat type of plants are you using?? I have an old 75 paludarium set up in 98 that is in
need of an overhaul . Think I might go back total aquarium.
The terrestrials hog all the light lol.
