Hows the fishing in the ozarks? Alot of the differences you will only learn with experience. Colocasia, generally require more moisture and full sun. A water droplet will usually "bead off" a colocasia leaf like Rain-X. All elephant ears dislike clay soils, in my experience. Colocasia are usually more cold hardy.

That's an interesting site, planty. I sure agree about that 'only with experience' comment too. One comment from my own experience--fortunately for me they don't necessarily dislike clay soil, as that's all I have. Of course, I don't know ANY plants that really prefer clay!

The clay seems to inhibit root growth. I've actually seen a plant topple over because it was unable to root in claylike soils.

My understanding was that alocasia foliage tends to be upright and colocasia foliage tends to droop. No?
