i have been sitting on some kiusianus seeds since last year that seem to be in the same situation. they have a growth point but haven't rotted. i am not giving up hope yet. maybe variabilis take a while to germinate.

I have some A. gigas seedlings here which are about a month old from seed. I went on holiday about a week after they sprouted and wanted to leave them with a mate for the TLC they deserve. When I went into the shadehouse to get them out I discovered that one had been decapitated and the other had been bitten nearly in half by rats. I was pretty happy and proud of the little guys so, needless to say I was less than pleased.
When I got back from my holiday I discovered that the decapitated one has re-shot and the nearly-severed one shows no sign of its near-death experience.
Hold on to those seeds, they will probably surprise you.
