Anthurium species vary in their blooming habits, so to give you the best info I'd need to know what kinds you have. Many species need to reach a certain maturity before blooming; I've never done anything special to get mine to bloom, and they bloom regularly. As you can imagine, I have quite a variety of species that I use in my hybridization work.

Hi, LariAnn and others. I have an Anthurium Cabrerense, one of the "black" anthuriums from Ecuador. I'm just starting out, and I'd like some advice.

Other than a little initial sun damage to the 2 first leaves (approx 4"wide x 6" long atop 18-24" long stems, respectively) that I've rectified by taking indoors, it seems to be in good shape. In the same pot since getting it, it's in a bed of peat moss, and the watering part seems good; I fertilize monthly.

I've now had it for nearly a year, and other than being healthy, and shooting up a new leaf that's very happy, I want to be sure I'm doing the right things.

I live in Southern California, and I currently have it placed atop a table adjacent to a window facing east. A large tree outside and the roof overhang protect it fron direct, intense sunlight. The room gets a little cold at night, ~50 degrees, lowest.

What are your thoughts, AND...I've never gotten it to flower. Is there anything that can instigate flowering, or any change in location, fertilization or watering?

Again, I'm brand new to all of this but wanting to do it all right. It's a great little plant, and I'd like to see it thrive.
