Identifying perennials?

I have lots of perennials that were ws last year that are coming back up now and I don't know what some of them are. Is there a good website somewhere that can help with identifying them?

I have the same problem -- do you at least have an idea of what they might be? I've been googling the names and looking through google images to try and figure things out. It's helped some. For example, I googled red flax seedling and found some good photos.

If you can take pictures, post them here or on the "Name That Plant" forum for identification. Most of the ones I have coming back up or that re-seeded are ones that I can now identify, but I have had that problem in the past. The more experience you have with wintersowing, the better you get at identifying your plants, because you see them as seedlings the first time around.

Start writing down everything you wintersow.. doesnt have to be as fancy.. I just do a written log. That way when something comes back that I cant remember, I pretty much know 98% of everything else, I just scroll through and take a look, google it and confirm.. It really doesnt take long when you are sowing.

Also you could try the website theseedsite.co.uk - they have great pictures of seeds and seedlings.

    Hope it helps!

Thanks for all of the info. I do recognize most of my returning perennials but there were so many new ones last year I am just not sure. And I did a pack of wildflower seeds. Probably not a good idea! lol
If you could take a look at this it would be great. You all probably know what it is at first glance.

Fuzzy might be a rudbeckia or rose campion. Seems that I saw something in my garden like that today. If I remember I will look again tomorrow.

To post more than one photo at a time in message:

Go to your online photo account.
Click on thumbnail or photo URL
Paste the URL in your message.
Hit preview. Your photo should appear in your message.
    Do NOT hit submit.

Go to the bottom message box and repeat for 2nd photo.
Hit preview. You should see two photos in the message.

If you want more photos in the same message repeat the above steps as many times as needed.

If that is all you want in one message and it looks good,
    hit submit.

silverkelt..what information do you write on your containers?
Do you write plant ID tags for the inside of the containers? You have the plants numbered in your record book but no date when sown. Is that written on outside of jug/liter bottle?

Several years back I did a section at WinterSown.Org called Emerging Perennials, I think it may be some help.

First plant looks like a Montauk Daisy, though it could be also a Shasta, second plant looks much like a Mullein.

Second plant is definitely a Verbascum/Mullein. I grow the Common Verbascum, and Olympic and Siberian Verbascums and those leaves are picture perfect. :O) Great plants!

Use a paint pen.. I # the jugs and then match them.. I used to bother with more details when I first winter sowed and such.. Now I just group them. Trees / Clematis First, Hardy Perennials any time, Hardy Annuals anytime, but usually feb 1st time frame, Tenders , veggies herbs and other annuals start of April. Makes life less complicated.

I usually can remember around 100 or so plants for height. I usually remember all of my plants Ive ever planted. Every once in awhile Ill completly fog over.. or I have a TERRIBLE habit of remember either latin or common name not both.. Today my wife asked me what was poisionous so she could remind the kids, I said the Digitalis over there.. she looked at me blank and it took me 10 mins to remember they are also called foxglove. HA!

Thanks Tiffy. You are good! And if you do another plant sale this year I want to see pics so I can dream of someday doing one of my own!
