Well, in your environment they are completely hardy so no problems. Am. bulbifer typically rests for a year after flowering and they are self-fertile so you should set seed from this influorescence. Because of this you may not get a leaf this year from this specimen. Certainly in my environment they will not flower and produce a leaf in the same year. Other species are perfectly capable of flowering and leafing out in the same year by the way. Plant it 5 inches deep in nice loamy, free-draiing soil and leave it alone in zone 11. Yes, the bulbils develop in the leaf axil and these will fall off the plant after the petiole collapses....by doing this it grows a new plant some distance away from the momma.....this species does not produce offsets from the main tuber by the way. Over time this species can produce a fairly large size plant. I would think in your climate that almost all of them would be fairly trivial to grow, but maybe not easy to find. Best of luck :o) Dan

Dan, I always learn something when I read your post. I didn't know that Bulbifer dosen't put out offsets. Strange, you sent me two, they are now puting up shoots, and the shoots look different. One looks pink, and one looks speckled. The shoots are VERY short yet, can't wait to see what happens. :) arum

Yeah, the two different petiole patterns on mine are really quite unique, but the flower is identical. I really like the petiole much better than the flower and am always dissapointed when they flower to be honest since I know I will not get a petiole that year in my environment. I'm glad to hear they are doing well.....I hope that the Galloway special wakes up reasonably soon for me :o) Dan
