Thanks for the heads up - didn't know zebra would tolerate part shade.

Glad to see another Chasmanthium fan on the board - I always recommend this one, particularly for drier shade. It's a beautiful native.

I've got a Miscanthus 'Gracillimus' in almost full shade, as well as several plants in mostly sun. It grows fine in the shady spot, but as you pointed out, it grows about half as tall (which isn't necessarily a bad thing because they get enormous) and it doesn't flower.

I started Chasmanthium latifolium from seed this year. It was a slow germinator compared to the other native grasses I started from seed. But I've got 6 small plants about a foot tall now. Can't wait to see this when it flowers!

No it's not flopping in the shade at all, but my variegated Miscanthus was flopping in sun until I tied a string around it to hold up the fronds. It's huge! That one's going to need to be divided, not a chore that I'm looking forward to.

I have been having zebra grass envy also. I have a spot that gets some summer sun but shade most of the year. It is in a spot that doesn't get much water. Does it need as much water if it is in shade?

Sunnytop - most grasses tolerate drier conditions once established, zebra grass being no excetion.
