I've been bitten by the "We'll deliver it at some later date" auction.. By the time you get your thing, the feedback date has fallen off... Even if it's damaged / took forever/ whatever you can't leave feedback to that effect.

Maybe that's what they're depending on now that I think about it...

I'm avoiding "plantranch" myself.

I was one click away from placing an order with Plantranch when a little voice kept saying,"Check Garden WatchDog". Glad I did. I cancelled the order and won't consider them again. There has to be something wrong when a nursery contuinally runs 20-50% off sales during the peak selling season.

I have a friend who's waiting right now for her "red elephant ear" what is that anyways! She's very frustrated, it's been almost a month.

I bought from plantranch and recieved fast. I usually get decent plants from ebay. there are a couple sellers i wouldnt touch. I menited one on another thread in banana forum under a sic basjoo.

i bought 4 weeping willow trees from plant ranch. they were sticks when they arrived but grew leaves within 3 days. now its about 5 ft tall! I gave two to my dad and one to my doctor. his huge tree got ruined by the hurricanes last year. I planted mine and its really doing well.

i think that any seller has good weeks and bad. if theyre a big company that deal with a lot of ppl, one cant think that they are the only person and should have pateince. BUT a company should certainly stand behind what they say they will do or sell etc. and at least ship within 14 days.

I think that so called Red elephant ear is nothing but a caladium. Ty-Ty (bad place to buy from) was the first place i heard of them. I guess a caladium is kinda an elephant ear but they dont get large at all and theyre cheap! but pretty.

I ordered 2 aroids from them and both arrived as tiny little things, we worked at them and babied them but they died anyway. I'll never buy from them again.

Beware of Plantranch!!!! I also bought a Taro from them. it took a month to receive.I had to email them to see why it was taking so long. I was told that they are a small operation and that they were backed up. I understand but, they had at least 4 pages of stuff up for sale. Why not halt selling and get caught up on what you have already sold.
My Taro was very small which I'm fine with. But it is not at all what was being sold! His response "with sun and heat it will turn red" .

i mustve lucked out. i probably wont buy from them again then.

I will never buy from Plantranch again. I bought 5 items from them on eBay, but because I dared to complain about the one item that was dried up and DEAD, he left ME negative feedback!

I had a negative experience with Plant Ranch last fall. I was sent three jade plants full of mealies. The sight of them hit me as soon as I opened the package.

The owner was really mean and snippy. On top of that he took his sweet time about replacing the plants. Of course he refused to refund my money. It was only after my filing a complaint with PayPal did he get on the ball with sending replacement plants. All this while getting huffy with me about filing it.

After all the mess, he was very straightforward about giving me a negative if I have him one. Plant Ranch is an awful, awful seller. Avoid them!!!

Want to make sure folks remember this sleazy merchant, AND since Ebay won't do anything, I just found a place that will -- the link below.

I made two orders in early 2006, and about half survived, and out of those, half didn't live up to the promises: a jasmine with no smell, (it died over the winter, even though it was supposed to be hardy for this zone), a hanging tomato plant that never hung, out of three supposed "hanging strawberry plants" -- one disappeared after the first day, one died within a week, and the third stayed the same one inch for most of the summer before dying finally.

I just hate being ripped off, but did notice ways to avoid it next time. Check out the dissatisfied responses. There is a common thread.
- Whenever someone complained, he usually interjects his own opinion directly afterwards (possibly actually deleting the original complaint) about the customer being uncooperative and unreasonable.
- He also insists that the customer must call him (he has no toll free number), even after writing out exactly what the problem is.
- His guarantee should have been a warning sign -- exactly how helpful is a 30 day warrantee for plants, especially, since many are supposed to be perennials?

And finally, google the company name! On the first result page, this thread shows up. If there is something sleazy, people will tell others!

Strange; I ordered a fig; they sent me what should have been a rooted cutting, but it was dead. I called the company and the owner told me that if I would wait he'd send me one as soon as they could get into the fields and dig rooted plants, or he'd send me one out of the greenhouse if I'd pay the postage. I opted for the greenhouse and got a fine 18" whip, well rooted. I cut it off by a third, planted it and now have a fine tree with several branches--three months later. I think the whole thing cost me about $9.50. My original order included a pussy willow and a blueberry. They were small but well rooted and both are thriving.

Folks, this is a low-cost nursery and in shipping season they use temporary help. You have to know what to do with the plants you get. They are NOT going to be large plants at these prices.

Sunnyaz, as just a side-note, and you probably already know this. But I buy Taro by the pound at the local grocery store in the produce section.

Grows great. Love the plant. Perhaps you sought a differant variety...
