Hello, Laurie. Gumpo White is a nice small/compact bush (2H'x3W') with "tiny" leaves. Part of a series that includes a pink and a red variety. Sold heavily in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. Early bloomer in late March or April. I like these Satsukis myself just because of the leaves. Needs moist acidic soil.

Tama No Hada is another Satsuki. I like the double colors that this one has on the same bush. White & pink. Another "dwarf" but grows a little taller than Gumpo White (maybe 3x3'). Needs moist acidic soil.

I have no personal experience with Sir Robert.

Thanks, Luis! I am in the DFW area, so would you consider those two to be good choices for this area? Are there any others you would recommend that are pretty as a shrub without the blooms. I'm looking for something for my front yard, so I want it to look good all the time.

Satsuki Azaleas like the ones you selected tend to be "dwarf" and do well here.

Encore Azaleas also do well but many of them get much biggger than Satsukis and their leaves are much larger. Here is a website with a list of Encore Azaleas sorted by size:

Slightly larger than Satsukis, Kurume hybrids like Hino Crimson (nice red, small leaves), Hino de giri (nice magenta; small leaves) and Christmas Cheer (reddish with awesome fall foliage) also do well.

You should stop by the Dallas Arboretum now or as soon as possible; their azaleas are starting to bloom and that might give you ideas.
