caladiums blooming ?

Hello, I planted caladiums for the first time this year and it looks to me like some of them are trying to bloom. The problem is they have just came up about a week ago and have only one or two small leaves and now are shooting up a stalk. Is this a bloom stalk and should I cut it off in order to get the plant to produce more leaves? I went kind of over board and planted about 500 hundred # 1 & 2 & 3 size bulbs. Thanks in advance.

Generally, folks advise you remove the blooms to send the strength to the leaves. Could be a bit of a chore for so many! The flowers are kinda mildly pretty, but since we grow them for the foliage, and they spend energy making flowers that could better be used making more leaves, I cut mine off. (Don't have 500 tho'!) Seems like quite a few of these aroid guys waste time making flowers instead of growing. Bet I've cut a dozen or more blooms off my Allo. mac so far this year. Maybe it's the drought.

Hi
I never remove the flowers from mine and they grow like weeds anyway lol Can't imagine digging up 500 come winter lol. Think i'd have went with tulips Iris or narcissus in your zone.
