    What's an ark? (;-p)

Sorry you seem to be getting the worst of it. I'm due north and it's only been showers up to this point. Wind has died down too. According to the radar map we should be getting clobbered.

    Hang in there!

Yeah, I just went out to put the garbage out.

It seemed (from inside) just to be a steady raining.

But I seem to have walked right into a hurricane strength wind! whew, it was kinda scary. Now I'm in, I don't hear anything, but out there I heard a howling.

I'm with you Donn, the wind is something else, I have to go out this evening and my poor little Hyundai will be all over the road.

We're getting a ton of rain here in eastern PA too. We have a flood watch in effect for rivers & streams. Don't remember ever getting this much rain in March...we sure have had some unusual weather this year. Heard some howling wind earlier too! I keep reminding myself the rain is watering the plants and stuff...

I'm spending the day indoors cooking stuff and making charts of my seeds!

We're up to 2" since midnight, and a top gust of 59MPH. High tide is just before 9PM and I'm afraid we'll get some saltwater in the backyard.

Just looked at the weather forecast because of your post Donn and it looks like we may get a downgraded version if anything at all. That's OK with me since I just moved all my containers from the deck to the backyard today.

Hope the saltwater stays away from your backyard, but I fear it may not since the new moon is with us right now.

    Stay well.

One day last fall we had 6" of rain or more in less than 1 day.
    Since January we've had 13"

Ground is so saturated from snow melt that water is flowing in nicely from tiny gap where our service comes in.

At least 5 feet below grade at the point where it is coming in.

On wet vac patrol. About 5-6 gallons per hour.

Will attempt repair with hydraulic cement once flow stops.

Last time (Hurricane "something" about 7-8 years ago) the heavy curb flow came over the driveway lip.

Down the sloped driveway. Into the garage. Down into the basement rooms. Right thru the basement and out the back door.

Poured concrete and tile all thru so no serious damage.

Wind blew over the portable basketball rim on the driveway.

Sadly my SIL's Mini will now be needing some work.

Jug farm on rear patio has survived.........so far.

It is really crazy windy here tonight, hubby says at least 50mph, had to stop and pull a small tree out of the road on our way home from dinner out a little while ago. Just turned a corner and there it was.... hubby got soaked to the skin. We were afraid our son, a newly minted driver, would plow into it on his way how in a few hours.

We've had the lights flickering so I have been lighting candles cause it looks like it could all go down in a heartbeat. I've near heard wind like this outside of the couple of hurricanes we've had out here. We found our chimney cap in pieces in the driveway too...

Hope my jugs are OK out there. I will be up at dawn checking them!!!

Another strange occurance. Since about dinner time our water pressure has been getting slowly weaker.

An hour ago it was down to a trickle. Now it's getting slowly stronger again. Very strange.

The wind blew my jugs all over the terrace. Plus some of my pots - at least they were all on the "ground", so they didn't have far to fall. Somewhere around here, seems like someone left their patio chairs out - one was flying thru the air when I went out to rescue the jugs. That was a bit scary, to say the least. Didn't see where it went, just hope it didn't hurt anyone or anything. I grabbed the jugs and brought them in; didn't want to take the time to put them elsewhere 'cause I honestly felt like I'd be blown over!

Haven't seen anything like this wind since the tail end of Hurricane Teresa blew through a few years back.

I did take the jugs back out when it calmed for a bit, and secured them behind some heavy pots that hopefully will stay put. Just hope they're still there in the morning.

My lights flickered too last night and I got the candles and flashlite out.
    But thankfully we kept power.
The wind howling was amazing. I have never seen wind like that in NJ, in Houston it is not so uncommon. The weather person said in NJ we had gust to 60 mph.

I've been out to look at sprouts.
They seem fine. It is supposed to shower and cloudy today and tomorrow. And pretty cool right now.

but by mid-week - 60's and sunny! YAY!

    Hope everybody made it fine.

Made it fine! Just got in from checking my containers and not only did they stay secure on their shelves in the terrrible wind, I've got lots more sprouts! I've only had poppy so far; this morning I found lupine and dianthus. Maybe they liked getting a nice soaking....

How did the backyard do Don? Hope all is OK!

A couple of weeks ago my yard looked like this
    {{gwi:355960}}

That snow just finally disappeared a few days ago. The snow melt had the ground already saturated. Now it has been raining almost constantly since Friday at dinner time. (a day and a half), supposed to have showers through tomorrow morning. Rivers are flooding. We haven't had severe wind, though.

I had 4 sprouted jugs yesterday. Don't know when I'll check them again. Not until after the monsoon ends.

    Karen

Wind finally got here during the night--I've got a lot of milk jug casualties out there, mostly on the north side of the garage where it's exposed to the full blast of the wind. Guess I'll just cross my fingers the seeds in those jugs eventually sprout.

This morning we're having a thunderstorm.

We got a little high water last night and at this morning's high tide, but no damage from it.

One wall of my boathouse got blown partially down last night (boats were not damaged), so I'll have to get the insurance man in. I expect he'll be busy next week. I also lost a few roofing panels from the carport. The wind was insidious.

I just saw that a tree that had been planted in the sidewalk was torn up or over by the monsoon.
These trees are *huge*, must be 30-40 years old.
I cannot imagine how it got torn up.
fortunately it looks like it landed on the sidewalk, and not on stores or cars.

Wow, this storm really has been something, hasn't it? Our rainfall here in PA is up to around 3 inches and it's still raining. Sorry to hear about the weather damage to your properties & flying milk jugs! We only lost a couple of shingles off our roof, thank goodness, although I heard there are a lot of downed trees and power lines out there. Amazingly, we still have power, although a lot of homes in our area are still without power this morning. Oddly enough, all my milk jugs stayed put...

Hopefully March will "go out like a lamb" as the saying goes.

Donn, You are making me nervous up here. Glad to hear the water didn't make it to the backyard and all that was damaged can be repaired.

Our weather forecast has changed but now they are saying there is no rain coming our way and winds will be at 50KM/hr. Sounds like a normal day to me. :O)

Temps in the 7C to 10C range this week so I think my little city of sprouts is about to surface in those conatiners.

Could this be the year we actually get an early spring and what is called a 'summer'??

An early spring and a REAL summer would be most welcome!!!! I am feeling optimistic in that I think this is pretty early for me to have sprouts and I have more than a hand full. Wishing for a cool SUNNY spring and a long hot sunny summer (not too hot)

We lost power here. Hubs and I went into Jamaica and picked up a generator from his company warehouse. Three houses to the left of us a tree cleaved off a huge limb which took out the high voltage wires with a pop and a bang. On the right around the corner a tree split in half and took out the high voltage wires. Two blocks from here a ginormous maple came down and is still laying across the road. I went down to the nearby steakhouse to pick up burgers for supper and the owner said that we had sporadic outages in our town, it seemed like wherever the trees fell they all took out the high voltage wires, but the south shore got nailed bad--worse than us (we're four miles inland). He said it was pretty bad in Five Towns.

I might get my power back by Tuesday. I got hot water, and can run a few lamps, the tv and the computers--and I can turn the oven on periodically to warm up the room. It's cold and damp. Brrrrr. Once upon a time dinner by candlelight was something very different, now it just sux.

We lost power at about 8:30 Saturday night. It wasn't restored til 2:00 Sunday afternoon, but no phone or cable for the computer. Got that back about an hour ago, 3am Monday morning. That wind was absolutely the worst I've ever heard on Long Island, and I've lived here all my life. We didn't loose any trees just some light limbs fell. From what I finally got to see on TV Sunday, Long Island really got it badly.

    Alberta

    Trudi,
sorry you lost power and haven't had it restored.
    That is a real pain.
We got a notice yesterday afternoon to boil our water for one minute before drinking it.
haha, that was about 7 hours after I drank coffee!
oh well I'm sure I'll live.
Minor, compared to what some people are having to go thru.

    Trudi,
I hope they are wrong and your power gets restored sooner than Tues.
At least you can still talk to us.

    Hey Alberta,
haven't seen you here in a while.
or else I missed yr posts.
    How are you doing?

    ellen

I'm feeling kinda good this morning.

Late last night before we turned off the generator and went to bed, Hubs told me quickly--very quickly--how to turn it on. He left for work around 430am and told me had had dragged it back outside and locked it with a cable to the porch railing. I got up this morning to find I still have the cable, the porch railing, and the generator, and tadaaaaaa, I turned it on first try.

There is nothing more empowering than a new skill ;-)

    Good for you Trudi!
But pls be careful - are those generators the ones that can emit carbon monxide or cause fire?

Maybe I'm thinking of space heaters.

I'm sure hubby wouldn't leave you with any kind of risk!

Ellen, As long as that generator is outside, Trudi's OK. :O)

This has a gas motor, it has to be outside.

We are having pretty serious flooding here in eastern Massachusetts. There are numerous rivers that flow through the eastern part of the state and all of them are either above flood stage or will flood soon somewhere along the river. Some of it is major flooding. Basements are flooded, roads are closed, and people are evacuating in some places. The Governor has declared a state of emergency. I don't think the area has had such bad flooding since 1979. It's the same story in parts of New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

My town has received about 7.5 inches of driving rain in the past 3 days and maybe another half inch tonight. Fortunately I live on an upland lot, and my basement is nice and dry.

Another round. 2.03" yesterday, and 2.21" so far today.

We're over 9" for March, and 15" for February and March. Average is 2.77" for February and 3.85" for March.

    ENOUGH!

Look at it this way -- the rest of the week is supposed to be beautiful.

I know how it feels, over 20" since January 1st here. Nuts.

We're getting hammered today, thank goodness our basement is tight and we're up on a hill.

I cannot wait for the sun to come out tomorow, the next week is going to be fabulous!!! (sun and highs near 80's - that's like late May weather for us!)

My rain gauge reads 3.3 inches as of 4 p.m. I'm in north central CT and we appear to have been spared the devastation that's occurring south of us. A small river on my way home from work is out of its banks and the CT river is high enough to make me nervous crossing it on the highway. They've declared emergencies in many southeastern CT towns--Stonington & Norwich are two I saw on the Internet alerts. I'm worried about Trudi, Donn & the others out on Long Island--they're getting hit hard again with this storm.
After the last high wind knocked over some of my containers I ran 6 ft. bamboo stakes through the handles of the outermost jugs and that seems to be holding the rest in place. BTW--the jugs that did get tipped over and tossed around have sprouts in them!!

We got through it just fine. No flooding here. 2.53" was yesterday's total, and just a few spits early this morning. Now it looks like a week of good weather, so I can get some gardening done. I still have over a hundred grasses to trim.

Here we go again. We are experiencing major flooding for the 2nd time here in eastern Massachusetts. The river that flows through my neighborhood is forecast to have record flooding upstream from us. All that water makes it way downstream and has closed many roads.

All time record rainfall for the month of March in much of Rhode Island and parts of southeast Mass. The Flood Warning says "The widespread 3 episodes of cumulative excessive rainfall within a 3 week period... between 13 and 31... is unprecedented in our recent 100 year weather history... especially during cool season."

Here are some pics from the last flood - it looks about the same this time :)

The neighbors who live along this road have to be ferried to their houses -
    {{gwi:364573}}

This is supposed to be a bridge over a river, but instead it's a bridge over a lake (and the road is closed) -
    {{gwi:364574}}

Crossing a nearby road (which was later closed) -

Storm one in mid March we got 8.0 inches, and this past storm we reveived another 7.0. 15.0 inches in two storms, enough is enough.
