I don't see why not. I'm assuming it's a full-grown rose and not a little youngster, and hacking back large roses even more than that doesn't seem to hurt them if it's done only once in a while.

I kept an Albertine in a pot for seven years and it never seemed to mind.
I'd wait to prune it after its' Autumn smaller flush of bloom, as I see you live in a warm climate.

Most ramblers, once established, can be pruned nearly to the ground if you do it immediately after the spring flush. The basal canes that grow out in summer will bloom heavily the following spring. This is the way that rampant-growing ramblers were kept under control in traditional formal rose gardens.

Doing this would cost you a fall flush if that is possible in Florida, so I would give the plant a few years to see if it can repeat on old wood for you. Certainly pruning a rambler by 25% will make no difference.

Hartwood, Does your Albertine repeat? I bought one last week, the tag says "repeat bloom", but after I got home from the nursery checked online, it's a once bloomer. I know it's a lovely rose. I am hoping yours repeats for you.

Thanks

I love the Barbier ramblers, I would love to have Albertine..

..I took this photo a few weeks ago of what I think is 'Albertine' growing on a cottage wall here... when I grew it I didn't get any repeat and I found it rather coarse and thorny, but grown this way it's a delight....

Thanks Marlorena, that's a lovely photo! I think I am going to plant Albertine next to a garden shed.

Just found out today, Albertine is not cane hardy here, down to 5-6" canes, that means no blooms this spring since it blooms on old wood. I'd have to move it to a different spot.........

Anyone grows this rambler in zone 6a/5?
