Native to where? Where do you live?

Without pinning you down too much, I'm guessing you're south of the Big Smoke around Humpty Doo? Would you happen to know a bloke named Darryl South? I met him many moons ago only six months after Tracy reorganized the entire urban area. At that time he was just starting up a plant wholesale/retail business.

Thanks for the heads up on the difference between the petiole stems of the common bat plant and A. galbra. My search north of Cairns for A. galbra netted a whole paddock of the elusive native Aussie Amorphophallus until I came across one with the distinctive flower of a bat plant!

Chicago311, they're native to north Australia. And I think maybe also New Guinea.

Rob, I'm next one on from Humpty Doo. Darryl South is still around with his nursery business. He did a stint as the ABC Gardener on radio for a while, but too much of a short fuse and got into a bit of strife. He's not on it any more, just runs his business now. The Tacca are far more common than the A. galbra. They're almost a weed on my place, wet season only.
