Need help improving "curb appeal"

Hi Houzz Designers...this a-frame is our getaway home. It sits on 40 acres in the upper mid-west which gets a lot of snow. Am interested in ideas to improve the outside appearance, especially to cover the cinderblock (need to keep the small windows). Like the wood siding and rustic feel. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Hi Michigammemom, thx for posting the photo. Love the stone. Are you in the UP? If so, is that stone available locally?

I am indeed in the also very snowy UP. Not sure where to source the actual stone from the houzz photo. There are some very convincing cultured stones available locally at Fraco.

Michigammemom - thanks for the tip about Fraco.

Love the house but it definitely could use some color. I like the stone facings, they've come so far and look so great! I would like to see the railings and doors with some color. I could definitely see red doors and maybe change out those railings. They aren't doing justice to the home; my first thought was that they were scaffolding! If your budget allows, put up something more in keeping with the architecture. If not, at least give i a coat of paint (dark green, maybe?) to distinguish it from the house.

Merrie, i can see what you mean about the railing looking like scaffolding. Bummer. Could do paint, but am wondering about what other options could be placed on the table. Any further suggestions? Images are helpful. Thanks.

Hey , your home is amazing looks out of a Movie set , I'd love to visit sometime when it snows , I think the fastest way to make it look more inviting is adding colour , on first look , it looked as if I'm seeing Scaffolding .

Upon closer inspection, I have to second Erin's statement about the safety of your deck rail. Unless there is some kind of screen or mesh that I'm not seeing, building code requires rail spacing so that an 8" sphere can not pass through.

Thanks Erin and Michigammemom for your comments and concers about the railings. I hear both of you -- and am talking to my husband about it. The railing looks flimsy in the photos but is quite sturdy in person. That being said, still a good idea to look into building codes. This funky a-frame was built in the 1970's on top of the shell of an old farmhouse. Has an interesting history. Thx for your comments.

I will try to attach a few photos. It all depends on your budget and if you want to DIY. But painting the doors would be a cinch and add instant color. Since you are in Michigan, plants might not survive well, but potted cedars or other evergreens in splashy color pots might liven up that deck. I do agree, check code. Aesthetically, the house has good bones, just wants to finishing work!

Great photos of some railing options -- stirs the creative juices. Thank you! And I like the idea of a fast and easy update by painting the door. There's a separate wood burning sauna building on the property close to the a-frame. What do you think about also painting the outside sauna door the same color to relate the two buildings? Someone suggested red -- burgundy family? Any other color suggestions for the door?

Keep the Door colours the same preferably .
