The damaged leaves will not recover. Prune if you want - there's no reason why it should kill them - but you'll have to keep a close watch for reinfestation and the plants will look a bit naked until they fill in with new growth.

There are mite species that attack azaleas, but lace bug infestations are far more common. Treating without a positive identification of the problem is never a good idea.
