It will do fine in dappled shade. It may set somewhat fewer flower buds than it would with more direct sun, but partial shade will probably be better for the plant's overall health in Z7.

Boursault is a tough plant. It will take heat and sun, but does well in partial shade. It is a denser plant in sun and a more open plant in shade. It is a more shade tolerant rhododendron, meaning that it will set flowers with only small amounts of sun. As mainegrower said, maybe not as many, but will still set flowers.

Be forewarned. Though it is said to get to 6 feet in 10 years, it will continue on to reach 15 to 20 feet with age if it isn't pruned occasionally.
