I did the same to three levels in our home and it took close to 40 hours to complete, so I know the hard work that was involved; but certainly worth it. It looks so much more modern and fresh.

Walls - Manchester tan
Treads - custom walnut stain to match the hardwood in the other rooms

Can you please give us more details on the custom walnut stain? Which brand? Anything in particular about the stain (what gloss level?)? And the rest of the staircase, can you give us the specific details on that paint? Can you tell I'm in the midst of figuring out what to do with our stairs?

I literally had to read A LOT of comments to understand and ascertain which one was the "after". I thought the stained one was the after and I thought wow, nice...and risky! So now I know that it is actually the painted one that is the "after" and my thoughts are pretty much the same...though I must say the house must be quite beautiful to have spent so much time, money and energy on what was a beautiful staircase...just sayin

I want to do the same to my stairs... But it looks like a bear of a job and i am afraid of messing up. Please tell me your process...did you remove the palisters to paint them or leave them in? Did you stain first then paint, or vice versa? How hard was it to sand ? Did you go down to completely bare wood? What kind of sander did you use? Did you sand and prime before painting? Thanks in advance!!
