Red is a great brightening up colour!

I thought the same, but i think the issue was keeping those sofas free from debris, which is why she replaced them with the black leather.

I think the black will be OK, but if you have a dog or cat, the pet hair will show worse on the dark. However, I totally "get" having 3 small boys. There needs to be a relatively light, bright rug to prevent the black sofas "sucking" the light out of the room, and I'd add bright, modern art to the walls....make one wall a gallery wall of your kids' artwork....mat in white with thin white (or black) frames.

I think the black will be OK too, you can brighten the room up with color....rug and pillows (kid and pet friendly)

Should I remove that ladder piece? I also have a family room I can move it to. I'm trying to have this area free from toys and let kids stick to playroom or family room. Should I repaint the dining room? I think it's too warm. I'm over the warm tones. I want bright and fun. During the day my house gets a lot of natural light. I feel like I need something I place of that ladder piece. Table, art??

Replacing the yellow with the black does not seem to be getting rid of the warm you seem to want to do. By all means move the ladder piece to another space. Try painting your accent wall another color such as the palest of teal & pull it into the whole area if you want it cooler. Where you have the ladder stand, hang a large long colorful abstract painting to go with the teal. Are the sofas the same style as the yellow ones? If so, just place them the same, they look good. I think you could use some arrangement of storage cubes to add the additional seating you might need & to add a place to throw stray toys. Add an area rug with cobalt blue, teal & chartreuse. Make sure the front feet of the sofas are on the area rug. Your storage cubes should be a creamy white. Add some plants (I don't see any), more bright art, some pillows, Use more texture, such as faux fur or some knit poufs and throws.

Thanks sandradclark! The black ones were given to me by my friend who is a GM at a south beach hotel. My yellow sofas have taken a toll. Therefore, because they were free and kid color proof I took them. Black is not my first choice but they are in great condition. I figured until my kids are older I'll invest in a piece then. For now, because they are black, I'd like to repaint over that end wall by dining room. Use brighter colors. Are you suggesting teal?
