Sorry this isn't really a gardening question but it's an accessibility question and I don't know where else to turn. Being in the backyard so much I kept looking at the garage and wishing I could paint the doors. The trouble is I have to scrape the old paint off. I can only manage to climb one rung of the step ladder which gets me high enough to reach the top of the door if I stretch my arm way out and I can only do that for a couple of minutes before my shoulder starts to ache.

So, what do you guys do when you have to reach up high? Can I buy paint scrapers and wire brushes on long handles? Is it safe to try to rig up some kind of ramp to get higher up the ladder?
