I see sweet potato vine and purple heart(both aren't flowering).

What type of canna is this and must they be dug up and over wintered in the lower mainland? I am in surrey bc.

The cannas in the pic are 'Bengal Tiger' (green one) and 'Tropicana' (Dark foliage one) They can be dug up and stored in a frost free place and replanted the following year but don't put them out too early. They benefit from starting them off in a heated greenhouse or maybe a cold frame but you can wait until May to plant the rhizome out directly in your garden or container. Give them regular fertilizer when planted in containers. I usually give them 15-30-15 liquid fertilizer feeding once a week. In this pot I planted 3 (1 gallon size) plant grouped together. If you buy them at a nursery already started they cost around $20 per 1 gallon container. I hope this helps!

Wow! How did you get everything in those planters? How large is the container? Would you share your technique for squeezing all those plants in there? These are just, the prettiest containers I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures of your artistry.

Hi mickeysgirl98. Thank you for your compliments! The containers are about 36" across. I do pack the plants in! LOL...The cannas are 1 gallon size containers (6' across) and most of the annuals I plant are in 4" containers. I tend to take off a lot of the soil around the root ball if I need to get the plant into the grouping. Most annuals can take the "rough up" of the root ball and they don't mind being tightly planted if you have enough depth in your container. You just have to make sure you water the grouping in well to settle them all in after planting. Once a week fertilize of 15-30-15 and water well and you can have big lush containers!
