palatine website

Please be patient with the Palatine website. They have a web designer who has fouled up. It doesn't support some of the Browsers. I have simple emailed my wish list and will phone in my Visa number. If anyone needs any info on some of the older roses, I have grown most of them and can give you my opinion of them grown in the PNW.

After checking in multiple times yesterday I finally installed Firefox and was able to place an order. Safari wasn't getting the job done.
I ordered waaaaay too many but got some great OGRs.

I had problems initially, but when I refreshed the home page, everything worked just fine.

I just got the Palatine catalogue in the mail.

Lynnette, have you grown 'Frohsinn'? My climate is far different from yours, but so far, I am finding that I can grow many of the Tantau roses with winter protection.

nastarana, I love the Tantau roses. Last year, I asked Palatine if they had plans to stock more of their roses since I loved Ascot so much. The owners of Palatine replied the Tantau did not have a North American representative and this prevented more of their roses from being sold--not sure I understood exactly what they meant by that. I do wish something would happen to make more of these roses available to us. I'm loving my new Augusta Luise, but I had to order it from Hortico. Bernstein-Rose is also an excellent Tantau rose, but very difficult to get in the U.S. or Canada. I'll be checking Frohsinn on HMF. What other Tantau roses do you grow? Diane

nanodoll, I was able to obtain some of the roses of Mathias Tantau Sr., and Jr. especially, when Eurodesert closed. Some of those are 'Goldregen' ('Golden Rain'). 'Landora' ('Sunblest'), 'Pussta' ('New Daily Mail'). I have 'Cinnabar' and 'Juliska' from Vintage, and the famous HTs, "Tropicana', 'Fragrant Cloud', 'Anneliese Rotherberger' ('Oregold'), and 'Monica' in cheapo body bags, so if they don't survive the winter I am not out too much.

'Fragrant Cloud' is one of my all time favorite roses. Love, love the color, in all stages and the fragrance is to die for.

'Pussta' is one of the best floribundas I have ever grown or seen, and I can't understand why it is not better known and more often sold.

They are a bit challenging in my climate, cold and wet, but with a fert regimen and winter protection, they have thrived so far.

I get lots of compliments on both 'Golden Rain' and 'Sunblest', even though both are often dismissed as inferior yellow roses. Possibly that is because yellow is challenging in our climate, so not often seen in roses.

Hans Evans took over the company in 1985. I am not so familiar with his work. I do have 'Diadem', a pink floribunda from 87. So far I am a bit underwhelmed, but this only the first year I have had it.

Thank you for this information. I love Evers' roses and want more of the newer ones. The three I do have--Ascot (Palatine has this one), Bernstein-Rose, and Augusta Luise, I love--I even have multiples. The ones I want now are available only in Europe so far. Here's a pic of Ascot.
