I just discovered "Garden Bulbs for the South" by Scott Ogden. It is very well written, full of useful information and beautiful photographs by his wife, Lauren Springer Ogden. I would not have tried several expensive bulbs, such as Allium giganteum- that failed miserably- if I had only read this book first. It ranks right up there with "The Southern Living Garden Book". I recommend it highly.
