It's certainly disconcerting. We have some bloodroot potted up for the our Master Gardeners plant sale on April 20, but it's already blooming and will be past its prime by then. Guess we'll have to have pictures to show customers.

If we get a late freeze this year that kills all the buds that are opening early, we won't have any summer flowers.

Dogwoods, crabapples and Bradford pears are all beginning to bloom around Gadsden and it looks like the redbuds are beginning to show some color - and Gadsden is usually one of the colder parts of the state! Welcome to global warming, folks! OK, this is a fluke, but still... I remember one year, I think 1987, the last killing frost was Feb. 21. Pehaps we will have another very early spring.

There is no question that the planet is getting warmer, it is simple math. Every reputable institution studying temperature agrees that the planet has been steadily warming since the 1880's when records started being collected.

Temperatures may go up or down over short periods (5-10 yrs.) but if you look at the big picture over the last 125 years, the planet is warming.
