Do you think it really is a Confederate rose? Did it bloom last year? If you are confident it is CR, scratch the limbs from the top going downward with your finger nail until you find green under the bark. This past winter was mild and I had limbs which were still green 4 feet up. Trim just below where you find green. If it is CR, it should be putting out leaves. All of mine are sprouting leaves. Our easier, you can cut the limbs back to 6 inches from the ground. If you don't think it is CR, I don't have any recommendations until you positively identify it.

No. It is not a CR. It is a trumpet flower of some kind, and it is not a vine. I mentioned CR only so you would know what it looks like. The wood seems soft like a CR so, I'm guessing it should be cut way back. What do you think?

Sounds like it may be a Burg (angel trumpet) to me. IF it is, you do not need to clip it at all. Just goes to show ya, we never know what the heck we are buying do we???????
