Hey, Michelle. It sounds like a viburnum. I almost bought one at Home Depot on Hwy 280/Inverness. My philadelphus (mock orange) put on leaves long ago and now has buds. Scratch the bark to see if there is still green under it.

my viburnum x burkwoodii just finished this weekend and the one at my sister's place in florence was in flower the weekend of mar. 18. did it have flowerheads about the size of a tennis ball or slightly larger? here is a link.

I have the vibernum you are refering to. I bought it at Callaway Garden plant sale three years ago. It is the Korean Spice vibernum. My mock orange has leaves but no blooms at present.
