Jesse, call some local tree companies and explain your need. Having a drop-off location for their mixed wood chips saves them having to pay landfill fees.

Our local paper mill lets you get mulch free. Would be quite a drive for you.
I you have any papermills close by, contact them about free mulch. If you don't know how to get the names, check with a local forrestry office and they may be able to give you names or even know another source.

Anybody with access to Maxwell AFB can get free mulch and dirt from the compost facility. I think it's limited to one backhoe load per week, but if you know enough people it shouldn't be a problem.. maybe you wanna check if the Huntsville base has a compost facility as well, since it would be closer for you.
